EASY Cruising
Tales, Tips and Torture from various Yachties
On 7 July 2006 ‘Easy Beat’, an Easy 32, was launched at Goolwa, SA. It was a long, but not difficult, gestation of 7 years and three weeks, mainly because the boat builder, and now Boat Captain, Roger Phillips, has been heavily involved (too heavily!) in the South Lakes Golf Club on Committee as well as Golf Captain!

Then another smaller shed was needed to house the overflow as the Easy under construction began to rapidly overwhelm the purpose-built shed! It soon became apparent that the turret could only be partially constructed and dry fitted if the catamaran was to be let loose out of the shed!
Firstly,
one has to buy a block...
to build a shed...
to build the boat!
In due course,
the two separate pieces were bodily removed, or rather rolled out onto the purpose-laid concrete slab. This all happened with the help of a couple of able-bodied golfing friends!
Then came the ‘putting together’ and final outfit prior to the launch.
A friend’s boat removal trailer was modified to accommodate the cat and a crane hired to lift her onto and off the trailer. The process began at 8.30 a.m. and by 11.45 ‘Easy Beat’ was all secure in her berth three kms downstream of her ‘without a hitch’ launch, much to the relief of the Captain and his Ist mate!
Goolwa has just experienced several months with the most magnificent sailing conditions. We hope the remaining winter months will be just as good! The rigging is to take place in three weeks from now and we can’t wait to go sailing all over the Lower Murray Lakes and Coorong.
Take me to the water!
